As I bimbled off this morning , I knew most of the wild streams would still be up from Fridays constant drizzle !!!! As I drove through Penybont on the A44 the Ithon looked pretty pokey , up and a bit muddy if I’m honest ….. I wasn’t hopeful that the Edw was going to be a picture perfect babbling mountain stream, with splashy rises and a single dry fly as my weapon of choice throughout the whole beat ….. as I parked up I was slightly surprised, she was up, but workable, sort of, in a dogged kind of way that only anglers create when a fishing session has to be done !!!!! Let’s go, fishing is on !!!!!
‘‘Twas a tricky but quick session this morning, no rises, even with a good trickling of olives at half eleven and sedge in the mix too ….. tricky customers demand respect, and a stealthy approach…… a favourite of here is a tungsten nymph with a touch of orange in it, so that was my chosen fly …. She worked, and I managed to winkle out two cracking Edw fish ….. it’s a cold steep valley this one, but signs of spring are shining through …. Primroses are out, lots of buds popping in trees, like grenades waiting to explode !!!! Bird song a plenty and hopefully in a few weeks, splashy rises of the resident trout population ….. it’s a great little stream for a slow mooch up with a single dry , targeting rising fish in the summer months ….. lovely jubbley!!!!
