Well , has been a while since i headed to this particular beat , in fact hadn’t fished it since April , so was nice to park up over the little stone bridge and get a glimpse of the river …… strewth she was low , but with the cooler nights , i was confident sport may be reasonable with dry flies , as the morning warmed up …

Did a thermometer dip of the water initially , and thankfully she was sitting at a comfortable thirteen degrees , so fishing was on … tackled up my usual small streams outfit , had a quick snack , and scrambled down to the start of the beat ….

It always amazes me how shallow water trout are happy to feed in ,and this morning was no exception …. tricky wading , combined with the low water and bankside vegetation put the odds in favour of Salmo Trutta spotting me first , before i could delicately land a dry fly ahead of their feeding zone …. Actually , sport was good fun , and i did manage six beauties to the net , all released carefully , as always …. great fun , and explosive takes too . Sedge and olive uprights on the wing from about eleven , for sure had the trout looking up for a tasty morsel !!!!!

oddly enough , i did see a tawny owl in the very lower branches of an alder ….. i spooked him , and he spooked me , i think he thought he was a kingfisher !!!! Anyway , a very pleasant few hours in one of the most tranquil valleys in Wales , and steeped in history too .

The walk back across the one big field was interesting …. i knew it normally has beef cattle in there , and today was no exception , and they looked feisty too , so i kind of had that walk going ……..a bit like Benny Hill , but minus the props !!!!! Made it to the gate , a relief , back to the truck , a nice cold can of pop , and another little adventure completed …… happy days !!!!
