As we come to the close of February I wonder how the season will pan out, with so little rain, even in the Cambrian Mountains the last month or so, the Upper Wye and the upper Severn are screaming for three or four days good constant rain, and as yet it appears we only had a pitiful amount last night …….. let’s hope a decent amount is inbound prior to the good months of the season on the rivers gets underway ……
As happens every season, I arrange and organise kit and equipment to the n’ th degree, it doesn’t make the days go quicker in what appears like a painfully slow January and February . Having moved recently at the back end of last year to the lovely little town of Rhayader, I’ve kept busy over winter, arranging bookings, marketing my website and looking into the future with ideas of quality embroidered sweat tops and caps ….. ladies days out, guided walks over the winter time, and of course keeping myself fit in the excellent town leisure centre….. after all, if your tabbing out to Llyn Gynon or Llyn Carw, you need strong ankles and a good degree of stamina ……
So, as I sit writing this little blog I’m hoping we’ll see a bit of rain before the third of March . As I mention to a lot of prospective clients that ring me or Email me, I’ll confirm bookings a week or so before their chosen fishing dates . Simple really, with the weather we have, and other factors, such as low rivers, I like to make sure clients will have the best possibility of catching wild brownies, and ultimately having a really fun day, after all, that’s what the aim of the game is …..
Before I close this blog, all anglers out there, be safe, enjoy our beautiful sport, and especially in the case of fly anglers, remember eye protection and headwear. I bang on about this to clients, but it’s an absolute must. Enjoy the season ahead, let’s hope it’s a good one, and if we all pray to the rain gods every now and again, our rivers may stay pretty healthy this season ……. Tight lines folks …..
