So after a hectic few days , and the jovialities of the Rhayader Carnival and the hustle and bustle of the Royal Welsh Show, ‘‘twas nice to escape to the beautiful tranquility of one of my favourite wild llyns last Friday …. In fact no, I’d go as far as to say it is my favourite, simples !!!!! Everything about it from the drive up past the beautifully grand Llyn Clywedog, to the wild openness of the moorland track as you drive down to the lake …. And then , then there’s that lovely feeling as you open the door of your vehicle ….. silence, almost ….. listen carefully, a distant raven, the lapping of the waves as they caress the peaty ancient banks of this hallowed Llyn …. Almost an eerie feel, but at the same time peaceful in its own way ……. As you become more acute to the surroundings , you pick up hill sheep calling way way in the distance…… a pair of Canada geese noisily break the ambience and…………….. oh look !!!!!!! …….a splashy rise, close in to the margin …… looked a good fish too !!!!! Possibly a sedge muncher, with that aggressive rise form ……….
Sport was sublime if I’m honest …. Actually I’d say it was more bordering on “frantic” , aggressive hits on both a two team set up, of my favourite wets for here, and a big single dry fly ….. which was hit savagely when fished with just the odd tweek, just out from the Lilly pads . Superb sport that kept me on my toes all day, from when I turned up at seven bells to my departure back across the moorland track at half three …. And that drive is a lovely amble, and allows one to just reminisce and dwell over a lovely day at a beautiful place …..
I think in a tally of three dozen, it was a half and half split with tactics of wet flies fished with a hover polyleader just subsurface, and when the wind dropped slightly, creating that lovely trouty ripple, I then fished a single large bibio sedgehog just out a yard or so from the Lilly beds…… bang !!!!! some lovely takes there… explosive to be honest, literally fish come from nowhere to hammer the big dry on the surface ….. brilliant fun … takes some beating if I’m honest ….. it’s pure escapism here, at its best, raw, wild Wales…. Big air that gives your soul a thoroughly good airing and leaves you feeling totally refreshed….. like a good gym session !!!!! You’re at ease, and the world seems a better place …… long May it continue …. All is well in the world at this wild, remote Llyn …. It’s a kind of magic …….. 😉😉🎣🎣🐟🐟………………
